BPT Tours Nuclear Aircraft Carrier
U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower

Homeported at Naval Station Norfolk, VA after an historic nine-month combat deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet areas of operations, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower [CVN 69] hosted BPT for an unforgettable tour on Thursday, November 7, 2024, prior to the BPT Clinic in Norfolk. VA.

The strike group – comprised of the nine squadrons of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3, Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), and Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Gravely (DDG 107) and USS Mason (DDG 87) of Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22 – engaged in combat operations in the Middle East region from Nov. 2023 to June 2024.

Affectionately known as “Ike,” the USS Dwight E. Eisenhower is 1,092 feet long, which is approximately the length of three football fields. It is powered by two nuclear reactors, allowing it to operate for over 20 years without refueling. Despite its size, it is a veritable “Speed Demon,” able to reach speeds of over 30 knots (about 35 mph). Housing a crew of around 5,000 people, it can carry up to 90 aircraft.

Exclusive to BPT

The exclusive tour, meticulously orchestrated by BPT’s very own Captain, USN [Ret.] Kent “Eagle” Ewing, kicked off just after noon on Thursday. BPT guests eagerly boarded a luxurious chartered motorcoach, ready to be whisked away to the majestic “Ike.”

BPT guests were briefed by former Commanding Officer Kent Ewing prior to boarding the ship.
